The latest entries focused mainly on the topic of investing, and this is not surprising as this blog is dedicated to investing. However, I also try to address other issues here than only how to invest your money well. These include e-marketing and self-motivation. I would like to dedicate this text to the second aspect and provide some motivational quotes that are close to my heart.
Motivational quotes – a new type of coaching?
I respect self-motivation and value those who can motivate themselves and others. Yet, I’ve always been reluctant to support coaching methods. All this wailing about “you’re the champion, you just don’t know it yet”, “be yourself and accept who you are as this is what it means to be successful”, or “just imagine something and it will come true”. This is bullshit! People, seriously? Not only do you listen to self-proclaimed experts without any achievements but you also pay for it.
Maybe I’m too simple, negative, and I don’t have faith, but in my opinion:
- No one will do anything for you, so any change is up to you,
- Success means work, work and more work.
As my favourite motivator says:
You have no choice but to go training and there is no way you’re going to bugger about like a freaking parsley – should I jump into this soup or maybe I should not … You’re going to run there like a kangaroo through the Ackerman Steppe, so get up, pack a bag and get your sorry ass over to the gym!
So, I say no to coaching! You want it? Then act! No? Then see you later! OK, let’s wait a moment. I’ll write an additional entry on this subject. So what’s the deal with these motivational quotes and how does it relate to what you must do to start investing?
So what’s the deal with these motivational quotes?
We can seek motivation from other people and their stories, situations, successes, failures and what they have to tell us. Some of these quotes make us think about them. Sometimes it gives us strength and increases our willingness to act.
Believing that words have power, I would like to include a few quotes here that have convinced me and motivated me personally.
So often people are working hard at the wrong thing. Working on the right thing is probably more important than working hard. – Caterina Fake
In our life, we may discover that we spent a lot of time on something … that has turned out to be a mistake. This can apply to our relationships, but also our professional life. If you want to be a dancer, but you don’t have the musicality, style, instinct, movement coordination and despite your efforts you keep on losing, maybe it’s time to have a think about all this? Sure, you can dance and let it be your passion. But maybe it’s better to focus your professional life on something else… something that you’re good at?
Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th time. – Julie Andrews
Now, you are probably thinking – after all, this is me and my dancing, I keep losing but I will never give up! I respect your commitment, but the situation is a little different. If you do something that you enjoy and you know you can do it better because you want to succeed in it – then you fight to the end. I like to snowboard, but I won’t lie to myself about becoming a professional snowboarder. I also like to invest and I know I’m good at it, so I’m sure that the 20th time I do something, I will achieve the expected returns.
The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why. – Mark Twain
Actually, this is where I should have begun because this quote contains the quintessence of motivation. When you find out what you are good at and define your goals, then you discover what to do to feel fulfilled.
No one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside. We cannot open the gate of another, either by argument or by emotional appeal. – Marilyn Ferguson
I’ve just remembered a verse from one of my favourite rap artists – Don’t save her, she don’t wanna be saved. Not everyone wants you to save them, and you are unable to protect everyone. If someone wants to change their life, they will do it. Not for you, not for the world, just for themselves. There is no other option. You have opened the door to a change, so the other person has to do the same.
Never waste your time trying to explain who you are to people who are committed to misunderstanding you. – Dream Hampton
It is pointless to change yourself, your views, ideals and attitudes in order to mould yourself to others. It pays to be aware and know your pros and cons. This way, we can work on them and become better people. However, it is not worth changing your own nature for those who do not understand you and do not want to understand you.
Do it before you’re ready because you’ll never be ready if you wait. – Les Brown
If we wait all our lives for the right moment, the right situation, the right decision, then we can wait half our lives for anything to happen. There is no option – “I’ll start tomorrow”, there is only – “I’m starting today”.
Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value. – Albert Einstein
I often mention that success takes different forms, and it depends on us what we consider a success. But I think the greatest success is to be a good person. When you are good to others, you attract good people and good karma to yourself. The world looks different somehow. Yes, it is more colourful.
Motivation can also take many forms. Some people like to read biographies, others like to talk to people, while others … use the services of coaches. What is important is to find what works for you. I myself am strongly inspired by quotes because I believe that words have power. All you have to do is discover it.
